FLASH GORDON RETURNS TO COMICS

<<<For immediate release>>>

14th February 2008.
Ardden Entertainment
New York City, NY.

Newly formed Ardden Entertainment has announced that it will be publishing a brand new monthly FLASH GORDON comic book series, with a first issue special edition launching at the upcoming New York Comic-Con in April 2008.

This new series, devised by Brendan Deneen and based on the original 1930s premise, will be the first comic book outing for Flash Gordon in over ten years.

Ardden Entertainment, jointly owned by Brendan Deneen and Richard Emms, was given the green light to produce an all new up-to-date retelling of Flash's origin in late 2007, signing the deal in early 2008.

Deneen, previously at The Weinstein Company/Dimension, whose first outing as a writer came with the award-winning (Ain't It Cool News) SCATTERBRAIN, is to write the entire FLASH GORDON series.

Emms, whose publishing career began at Autumn Press (later becoming APComics Ltd), will oversee the production of the book from cover to cover.

Joining Deneen and Emms is comic book veteran and Eisner Award-winner J.M. DeMatteis. DeMatteis, whose career spans over three decades, has been officially named as the company’s Editor-in-Chief, taking on editorial duties for FLASH GORDON, as well as the company’s roster of up-and-coming creator-owned titles.

Brendan Deneen, co-owner, comments on the monumental first signing for the company:

"I've loved the character of Flash Gordon since I was 8-years old and saw the 1980 feature film in the theater. Flash represents what is great about monthly comic books…action, adventure, romance and cliffhanger endings. I couldn't be more thrilled to be chronicling Flash's adventures for the 21st century."

Richard Emms provides an insight to the production of the book:

"We're going full-on in the production department. This book is going to be unlike any other seen previously in the world of comics. We've looked at many different ways to attract new readers into the world of comic books. Not only will our comics sit great on comic store shelves, now high end book stores can carry our titles - we'll be adding an ISBN on covers created for the book market. And yes, there could be direct market and book market variant editions of each issue but we'll make both editions available for the direct market."

"Every issue will ship with a card stock cover as well as high quality glossy interior paper. Around each cover will be an outer laminated cover (or dust jacket), which will feel very retro in style, complementing the whole package that we put together."

The FLASH GORDON NYC Comic-Con edition is exclusive to several NYC/NJ based comic book stores at the time of the convention. A full list can be found on Ardden's website in the coming weeks. An official street date of April 14th has been scheduled for fans to obtain issues and only 3000 copies will be produced of this edition. A further 500 copies will be printed exclusively for the UK Comic Expo in May.

The NYC Comic-Con will be Ardden’s first official appearance and over the week preceding the convention, the FLASH GORDON creators will be partaking in a small signing tour at local comic stores. Shop owners interested in hosting a signing, and based in the NYC and NJ area, should contact Ardden direct via its website.

Flash Gordon celebrates his 75th Anniversary in January 2009 and Ardden has planned to release a special hard cover edition of the first six issues with a significant amount of bonus material, as well as a special year-end 48-page one-shot, featuring top industry talents.

In late 2009, Flash Gordon's creator, Alex Raymond, who died in 1954 in a car accident, celebrates his 100th birthday.
